How to Become a Data Analyst
in Saudi Arabia
Last updated 30 September 2026
Almost everything written on this question is written by someone selling a degree or a training course. This is the version for a person who already has a degree and wants the job: what gets tested, what is optional, and what Riyadh pays band by band. Nothing here counts live postings, so where a count is what you need this page says so and sends you to a job board instead.
The Short Answer
To become a data analyst in Saudi Arabia you need SQL at a working standard, one business intelligence tool you can finish a piece of work in, Python for cleaning and automation once those two are solid, and two projects built on real data that someone else can look at. A degree in any numerate or business subject is enough to apply with. A specific data science degree is not required, and in this market it is not what separates the CVs that get interviews from the ones that do not.
The demand is concentrated in Riyadh, and Jeddah is a real but smaller market for the same role. We are not going to put a number on that, because we do not count job postings and will not pretend otherwise. Check the live count yourself on Bayt, LinkedIn or Jadarat, filtered to the city, before you decide where to apply.
The Route, in Order
The order matters more than the contents. Most people who stall do so because they took the steps in the wrong sequence, usually by starting with machine learning.
1Get SQL to a working standard first
Not an introduction to SQL, a working standard: joins across several tables, grouping and aggregation, window functions, and the confidence to write a query against a schema you have never seen before. Almost every data analyst job description in this market asks for it, and unlike the rest of the list it is the one skill where being roughly competent is worth very little. Interviews test it live.
2Pick one BI tool and go deep rather than three and stay shallow
Power BI, Tableau or Looker Studio. Which one matters far less than whether you can build something end to end: connect a source, model the data behind it, and produce a dashboard someone else could actually make a decision from. Listing three tools you have each used once is a weaker line on a CV than one tool with a finished artefact attached to it.
3Add Python only when SQL and BI are solid
Python is the line between a junior and a mid level analyst in this market rather than the way into the first job, and the part that pays is narrow: pandas, cleaning, and automating something you would otherwise do by hand every month. Machine learning is a different job. Starting with it is the most common way graduates spend six months and end up no more employable.
4Build two projects on Saudi data, not on the Titanic dataset
Open data from Saudi sources gives you something no bootcamp portfolio has: a project a Riyadh hiring manager recognises. The General Authority for Statistics publishes a great deal at stats.gov.sa, and the Saudi open data portal at open.data.gov.sa publishes more. Two finished analyses of local data, each with a stated question and an answer, beat six notebooks that stop at the charts.
5Learn the sector before the tooling
Analyst work is sector shaped. Banking, telecom, retail and the giga project programmes each ask different questions and use different vocabulary, and a candidate who can talk about churn, or about basket size, or about risk exposure, reads as someone who has been near the work. Pick the sector you are applying into and learn its twenty words.
6Apply against the advert rather than into the void
Take one posting, list every requirement in it, and mark each one evidenced, asserted or missing. Evidenced means there is a line on your CV proving it. Asserted means you claimed it. Missing means neither. A CV that turns three asserted requirements into evidenced ones is worth more than another certificate, and it takes an evening.
What the Job Pays While You Are Doing This
These are the Riyadh bands from our salary page for this role, in Saudi riyals per month. Neither Saudi Arabia nor the UAE levies personal income tax on employment income, so for an expatriate employee the monthly figure is close to what arrives.
| Band | Experience | Monthly range | Median |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fresh graduate | 0 to 1 years | SAR 5,000 to SAR 8,000 | SAR 6,500 |
| Junior | 1 to 3 years | SAR 8,000 to SAR 12,000 | SAR 9,800 |
| Mid level | 3 to 6 years | SAR 12,000 to SAR 17,000 | SAR 14,000 |
| Senior | 6 to 10 years | SAR 17,000 to SAR 24,000 | SAR 20,000 |
| Lead / Manager | 10+ years | SAR 24,000 to SAR 35,000 | SAR 28,000 |
The fresh graduate band is the one worth reading carefully, because it is wide. The difference between the bottom and the top of it is usually not the degree. It is whether the candidate arrived with finished work and a sector they could talk about. The full page, with the skill premiums and the named employers behind each band, is at data analyst salaries in Riyadh, and the Jeddah equivalent is at data analyst salaries in Jeddah.
The Skills That Move the Band
These are the skills that change a Riyadh offer, in roughly the order the market rewards them. Read them as a sequence rather than a menu. We do not attach a monthly figure to any of them, because nobody publishes per skill pay premiums for this role in this city and an invented number beside a real salary band devalues the band.
Cloud warehouse: BigQuery, Snowflake or Databricks
Carries a premium
The single biggest jump in Riyadh. Banking and government programmes are migrating off on-premise systems, and analysts who can work inside the warehouse rather than wait for it are scarce.
Python for analysis: pandas, automation
Carries a premium
The line between junior and mid. Not machine learning, just the ability to stop doing a thing by hand every month.
Forecasting and basic modelling
Carries a premium
Retail and telecom in Riyadh pay a real premium for demand and churn forecasting. This is where analyst pay starts overlapping data scientist pay.
Power BI beyond drag and drop: DAX, row level security
Carries a premium
Power BI on a CV is expected. DAX and row level security on a CV is a different candidate.
What Changes Because This Is Saudi Arabia
Three things differ from applying for the same role in the UK or Europe. The first is Saudization: if you are a Saudi national, hiring you counts towards the employer's quota and that is a commercial fact you should put in the header of your CV rather than bury in a personal details block. Our guide to Saudization for job seekers covers what it changes for both nationals and expatriates.
The second is the offer letter. Gulf packages split into a basic salary plus allowances, and the split decides what your end of service benefit is worth, which makes two offers with the same headline genuinely unequal. That is covered in basic salary versus allowances in a Gulf job offer.
The third is the CV itself. The conventions here are not the UK conventions, and a graduate CV for this market handles nationality, residency and languages differently. That is how to write a graduate CV for jobs in Saudi Arabia.
Where the Figures Come From
Every salary figure on this page is read from the same data file that generates our salary pages, so this page and those pages cannot drift apart. A band is published only where a published, checkable figure with a stated sample size exists and where at least three real employers can be named for that role in that city. The compilations behind those figures disagree with each other. Read on 18 September 2026, Indeed and Glassdoor differed by 59% to 72% on the same role in the same city, so a band is our reading across them rather than a point where they converged. Combinations that cannot be sourced that well are left out rather than estimated. These are compiled estimates for the role rather than a count of advertised jobs, and nothing on this site counts live postings. Figures were last reviewed on10 September 2026.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I become a data analyst in Saudi Arabia?
Get SQL to a genuinely working standard, learn one BI tool deeply enough to finish something with it, add Python for cleaning and automation once those two are solid, and build two projects on Saudi open data rather than on tutorial datasets. A degree in any numerate subject is enough to apply. The part most graduates skip, and the part that decides the outcome, is having finished work someone else can look at.
Do I need a data science degree to work as a data analyst in Saudi Arabia?
No. Analyst adverts in this market typically ask for a bachelor's degree in a numerate or business subject rather than a specific data degree, and economics, engineering, finance, mathematics and business graduates move into analyst roles routinely. What is not optional is demonstrable SQL and a piece of finished analytical work.
What does a data analyst earn in Saudi Arabia?
In Riyadh the fresh graduate band runs SAR 5,000 to SAR 8,000 a month with a median of SAR 6,500, and the junior band above it runs SAR 8,000 to SAR 12,000. Those are compiled estimates read across published salary compilations that disagree with each other. Read on 18 September 2026, Indeed and Glassdoor differed by 59% to 72% on the same role in the same city, because Indeed derives its figures from job adverts and skews junior while Glassdoor's are self-reported and skew senior, listed in full with their sources on our Riyadh data analyst salary page, last reviewed on 10 September 2026. They are estimates for the role, not a count of advertised jobs. Jeddah runs a little below Riyadh for the same role. There is no personal income tax on employment income in Saudi Arabia, so for an expatriate employee the monthly figure is close to what arrives.
Are data analysts in demand in Saudi Arabia?
Riyadh is where the volume is, with Jeddah a real but smaller market for the same role. We are not going to attach a number to that, because nothing on this site counts job postings and a made up count is worse than no count. Search Bayt, LinkedIn or Jadarat with a city filter and you will have a better answer than any page can give you, because it will be current.
Which certificate is worth doing for a data analyst job in Saudi Arabia?
A certificate is worth doing when it makes you build something and when the name is recognised by the person reading your CV. The Google Data Analytics certificate and the Microsoft Power BI certification both meet the first test, and both are common enough in this market to be recognised. Neither substitutes for a project, and no certificate compensates for weak SQL, because SQL gets tested directly.
Do I need Arabic to work as a data analyst in Saudi Arabia?
For most analyst roles in multinationals, banks and technology companies the working language is English, and Arabic is an advantage rather than a requirement. It matters more in government adjacent work and in roles where you present findings to a wholly Arabic speaking business audience. We cover where the line falls in more detail in our guide to Arabic for jobs in Saudi Arabia.
Can I get a data analyst job in Saudi Arabia from outside the country?
Yes, and it is a normal route, but it is harder than applying with residency already in place. An employer hiring from abroad carries a visa cost and a delay, so established companies with an existing sponsorship process are a materially easier target than small ones. If you already hold a transferable Iqama, say so in the header of your CV.
How long does it take to become a data analyst from a standing start?
There is no honest general number, because it depends on what you are starting from and how much time a week you can give it. What is knowable is the sequence and the finish line: SQL to a working standard, one BI tool with a finished artefact, Python for cleaning, two projects on real data. People who treat that as a checklist of things to complete get there. People who treat it as a list of courses to watch usually do not.
What is the difference between a data analyst and a data scientist in this market?
An analyst answers questions about what happened and why, mostly in SQL and a BI tool, and communicates the answer to a business audience. A data scientist builds models that predict or classify, and the entry bar is higher. In Riyadh the pay bands overlap at the top of the analyst range, which is where forecasting and modelling skills start to be paid for.
